2008 Call for Nominations
Each year, the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission presents State Historic Preservation Awards to honor individuals, organizations, and projects for their outstanding contributions to the preservation of Rhode Island's historic resources. The Commission is sekking nominations for the 2008 Awards, which will be presented at the Statewide Historic Preservation Conference on Saturday, April 12 in Providence.
Guidelines
>The nomination deadline is February 15, 2008.
>Nominations must be for projects, programs, and activities in Rhode Island.
>Projects must have been completed after January 1, 2003.
>Nominations of properties owned by others must include a letter of permission from the owner.
Categories
Service Awards
>Antoinette F. Downing Volunteer Award: To an indvidual volunteer preservationist who has made a contribution through a lifetime of effort or through a single significant project.
>Frederick C. Williamson Professional Award: To professional individual or organization which has made a contribution over a period of years or through a single significant project.
Historic Preservation Awards
To historical/preservation societies, private individuals or families, bsuinesses, or municipalities for outstanding contributions in the areas of:
>Project: For outstanding restoration of historic buildings, landscapes, and/or sites
>Artisanship: For exemplary skill in the use of tools and materials for historic preservation
>Education: For educational intiiatives such as children's or adult programs, tours, publications, or media
>Planning: For community preservation programs that are innovative, comprehensive, or particularly responsive to community character and issues
>Stewardship: For commitment to, and longterm care of, one or more historic buildings or landscapes
>Advocacy: For efforts to raise awareness and mobilize support for historic places

Reasons for nomination:
Summarize the nominee's significance and explain how the nominee meets award criteria. Attach additional sheets if necessary.
Notes:
>Attach no more than three additional sheets of supporting documentation and no more than three photographs, slides, or a CD with images. Photographs, slides, and CDs will be returned in May 2007.
>For nominated persons, include a summary of achievements and dates.
>For nominated projects, include property owner's name, property's architectural and historical significance, project summary, and project dates. Projects must be completed to be nominated.
>For nominated planning and educational work, include program summary.
